Tributes from around the world have been paid to Amy Winehouse. The British Grammy award-winning singer, age 27, struggled with alcohol and drug addiction and had recently spent time in rehab. I truly wish that Amy had known about her cards, the Ten of Clubs 10♣ and the Eight of Diamonds 8♦, which are both on the Crown line–the line of fame and glory in the Grand Solar Spread. I feel that if she had understood the meaning of her cards, their gifts, their challenges and associated karma (The Queen of Spades Q♠, the Card of Self-Mastery, and the Jack of Spades J♠, the Card of the Spiritual Initiate), she could have successfully mastered her life, and her world, and would still be with us today.

According to her Birth Card, The Ten of Clubs Card, her 1st Karma Card is The Jack of Spades, the Spiritual Initiate or the Thief. Through an excess of mental power and creativity, the Jack of Spades can either become a visionary, a spiritual leader, or a thief. Most Jack of Spades will have a little of both of these qualities present. Since this is her Ten of Clubs 1st Karma Card, this indicates that in a previous incarnation she chose not to use her highly creative mind with truth and wisdom. It may be that she played the low side of the card and that her previous life was a complete sham and she became lost, believing her own stories that were concocted to avoid unpleasant situations in life. Because this is what happened before, it is very easy to fall back to this behavior and approach to the present lifetime because it is what is familiar in an unconscious way. In this lifetime, she was being given an opportunity to play the high side of this card.

The Jack of Spades has creative power and mental ability that can do anything. The question is whether or not they direct this energy with patience and wisdom. If they do not, they move toward the low side of this card and are lured by the ‘easy wins’ that they extract out of situations. Noted by their placement in the Spiritual Spread, they sit in a powerful place and this power can either take them to the highest levels as a spiritual initiate or tempt them to the lowest levels, especially through alcohol, drugs or other escapist addictions.

On the high side, the Jack of Spades person can always do well with the public and can become a successful artist and/or actor. Their basic value system, learned in their childhood, is mostly responsible for their direction and ultimate success. Often they inherit money although they can make enough on their own. The Jack of Spades people are usually ambitious and can expect a successful life in most cases.

What is important to understand is that the Jack of Spades has some love karma to dispel. They are bound to have relationships that show them the value of truth, commitment and the proper use of their strong sexual drive. If not coupled with wisdom and integrity, these qualities combined can get them into trouble as they are very creative, romantic, and independent. More than most of the other cards, the Jack of Spades dream of an ideal lover or partner. Their dream often keeps them searching and may also be responsible for the high turnover rate in their love lives as no one person can ever match up to their high ideal of love. Success in love is in their hands; therefore, no one but themselves are to blame if they are not satisfied in this area of their life.

Note that Amy’s Cosmic Lesson and Result Card for this lifetime was the Seven of Hearts. Amy Winehouse’s record producer, Mark Ronson, upon hearing about her death on July 23, 2011 said, “She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.”

Recently, on August 23, 2011, toxicology reports show Amy Winehouse did not have drugs in her system, according to a statement by her family. The results, which have not yet been publicly released, indicate that there was alcohol present in her body at the time of death, but it’s unclear in what amount.

The Eight of Diamonds Card has the Queen of Spades as its 1st Karma Card – The Card of Self-Mastery. Because Amy also played this role before in a previous incarnation, she must have bombed at the box office in her performance. The Creator of All That Is provided the world as a stage, provided the story, scenery and the supporting cast and of characters for her. Yet she chose to play the low side by operating out of fear. This card indicates that she did have power and authority that are not always found in positions of authority or prominence. In a past life, she must have ended up in menial positions where she complained bitterly about her position in life and never amounted to much. As the card of self-mastery that sits in the crowning position in the Spiritual Spread, if she had recognized her powerful gifts and taken responsibility for her life, she could have ultimately risen to the great heights had she truly desired to do so.

Amy Winehouse had just pulled out of a comeback tour last month after a disastrous appearance at her first gig. She cancelled the European tour after being jeered at a show in Belgrade when she appeared too drunk to perform. Concert-goer booed her off the stage by fans angry at her performance as she was behaving erratically at the gig. Apparently, for 90 minutes, she mumbled through parts of songs and at times left the stage, leaving her band to fill in during her absence.

Just prior to her death, she had recently finished a course of alcohol rehabilitation in London and at the time was under strict instructions not to drink. Ironically, her home away from home was a pub called the Hawley Arms and everyone there remembers what a good laugh she was. She even used to serve behind the bar. Friends say that she was part of the community there in Camden.

Winehouse won widespread acclaim with her 2003 debut album, Frank – which was nominated for the Mercury prize.

However, it was her 2006 “Back to Black” album which brought her worldwide stardom, winning five Grammy Awards.

Although alcohol was detected in Winehouse’s system, it’s not clear whether it played any role in her death — or whether the problem was that it was too much, or too little.  There are reportedly other medical issues that may have played a role, too. Her father, Mitch Winehouse, in 2008 indicated that Amy was showing signs of emphysema — a rare disease in someone her age. He added that she had suffered from an irregular heartbeat.

The results of an inquest are due in October. Until then it is unlikely that the cause of the songstress’s death will be any less of a mystery.

Salaam Remi, hip-hop producer, who also worked on Winehouse’s albums, Frank and Back To Black, paid his tribute to her on Twitter saying: “Very Very Sad Day. Just lost a Great Friend and a Sister.” He later added: “RIP my baby SiS Cherry Winehouse. Love ya always.”

TV presenter Kelly Osbourne tweeted: “i cant even breath right now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!”

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood announced he is to dedicate his Saturday night show on Absolute Radio to Winehouse. He said: “It’s a very sad loss of a very good friend I spent many great times with”.

Singer Carole King, whose song Will You Love Me Tomorrow was covered by Winehouse, said she was “very grateful” the star had “put her wonderful talent” into recording her version of the track.

Actress Demi Moore also wrote on Twitter: “Truly sad news about Amy Winehouse. My heart goes out to her family. May her troubled soul find peace.”

Daily Telegraph rock critic Neil McCormick said he was “utterly shocked” at her death. He said she had appeared focused when giving an “incredible performance” for a recent studio recording of a duet with Tony Bennett. “It’s deeply sad. It’s the most completely tragic waste of talent that I can remember,” he added.

Steve Jobs is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. He also previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios. In 2006 he became a member of the board of The Walt Disney Company following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney. Jobs was also credited in the 1995 movie Toy Story as an executive producer.

Let’s take a closer look at the life of Steve Jobs and his health challenges through the cards based on his birth date of February 24, 1955.  He is an Ace of Diamonds A♦, The Desire for Money Card, with a Five of Diamonds 5♦ Planetary Ruling Card, The Financial Freedom Card.

Jobs is currently on his third medical leave of absence. Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook is running Apple’s day-to-day operations while he is on leave. Analysts noted that Jobs’ health problems are widely known by investors.

Despite his leave from Apple, Jobs had been seen in recent weeks on Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California. The company has said he will continue to be involved in major strategic decisions. This should not be a surprise as Jobs is known for his idiosyncratic style. In 1996 Jobs rescued the computer maker from near death after a 12-year absence from the company.

Jobs had surgery in 2004 for a tumor on his pancreas. He had a liver transplant in 2009. These occurred in his 7-Year Spread which ‘coincidentally’ started in 2004 and ends on his birthday this year. Remember, everything in this system is from birthday to birthday.

His current Seven-Year Spread ends this week on his birthday. His Displacement Card for this time frame is a Nine of Spades. Here is what that card means in that position:

It seems obvious that Jobs will be ending a major part of his lifestyle. He has already given up major parts of his lifestyle with pancreatic cancer and even parts of his body with a liver transplant. We will all know soon enough as this portion of his life comes to a close and he shows us what it is like to have a Queen of Spades Pluto Card in a Life Spread. Self-mastery is definitely the name of his game right now!

The Two of Hearts is called “The Love Affair Card” and one that mixes business with love. Her birthday, December 29th, is the only birthday for this card. As an iconic modern woman, Mary Tyler Moore has made an enormous contribution to television history as both an actress and producer. Audiences first fell in love with her as a believable symbol of the smart, young, pants-wearing mom in the highly regarded comedy series, The Dick Van Dyke Show, before she came to signify a new breed of independent, liberated professional woman in the popular Emmy-winning sitcom, Mary Tyler Moore Show. Here she starred as the unforgettable Mary Richards, who moves to Minneapolis/St. Paul on the heels of a failed relationship. The show was a fixture of CBS’s unbeatable Saturday night line-up for years, and one of the earliest TV portrayals of a woman who was happy and successful on her own rather than simply being a man’s wife.

As a ‘double-two’ card (2♦ Planetary Ruling Card–PRC), the 2♥ may be one of the most feminine cards in the entire deck. But being so feminine isn’t all a blessing. On a personal level, I believe Mary tried to overcome her fear of being alone when her son died of a self-inflicted gunshot in 1980. In her chart, she had a 9♥ in Uranus–an “unexpected” death or loss. (How can it be called unexpected when it was in her cards?) Yet three years later she married a third time to a Dr. Robert Levine. That year she had a 4♥ Result Card–the marriage and stability in family card. They met when her mother was treated by him on a weekend house call. Again she has partnered with someone she is in business with. The business at hand now was taking care of her mother.

America’s sweetheart has faced many personal hardships over the course of her life here on planet Earth including the premature deaths of her siblings from cancer and a drug overdose. Mary has long been diagnosed an insulin-dependent diabetic, and battled with alcoholism. In spite of all her challenges of being a 2♥ character out on the world’s stage, Mary is an active spokesperson for diabetes health and awareness. The Four of Hearts 4♥ card is known as “The Marriage and Family Card” and the birthdays for this card are October 31, November 29, and December 27. It is the first card in the deck to seek stability and foundation. The 4♥ person seeks this in relationships, either intimate or friendship and family related. People with this Birth Card have high ideals about love and family and when these ideals are not reached, the pain can be so great that they need some form of escape to soothe themselves. On the positive side, if Four of Hearts 4♥ people combine their ideals with truth and objectivity, these people can have wonderful lives of fulfillment in family and other areas of love. Those that hear the inner call to help others, and lay aside some of their personal considerations and expectations, will have more satisfaction and less dreams that become nightmares in their lives.

(Because his astrological sign is a Scorpio, he has three cards in this system. To keep things brief, I will cover the basics for this article.)

In looking at the life of Michael Landon, we learn that he was born as Eugene Maurice Orowitz on October 31, 1936. He was the son of a Jewish movie-publicist father and an Irish Catholic musical-comedy actress mother. Michael grew up in a predominantly Protestant New Jersey neighborhood. The social pressures brought to bear on young Michael, both at home and in the schoolyard, led to an acute bedwetting problem, which he would later dramatize in the 1976 TV movie “The Loneliest Runner.” Around age 19, Michael Landon landed his first film lead in the now-legendary “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” (1957), one of the better examples of the late-’50s “drive-in horror” genre. Years later he was cast as Little Joe Cartwright on the popular TV western “Bonanza.” The show chronicled the weekly adventures of the Cartwright family, headed by the thrice-widowed patriarch Ben Cartwright (played by Lorne Greene). He had three sons, each by a different wife: the eldest was the urban architect Adam Cartwright (played by Pernell Roberts) who built the ranch house; the second was the warm and lovable giant Eric, better known by his nickname “Hoss” (played by Dan Blocker); and the youngest was the hotheaded and impetuous Joseph or “Little Joe” (played by Michael Landon).

Bonanza was considered an atypical western for its time, as the core of the story lines dealt less about the range but more with Ben and his three dissimilar sons, how they cared for one another, their neighbors and just causes. During his fourteen-year Bonanza stint, Landon was given the opportunity to write and direct a few episodes. He later carried over these skills to his next TV project, “Little House on the Prairie,” another series about a special family which ran from 1974 to 1982. Landon kept up his career momentum with a third long-running TV series, “Highway to Heaven” (1984-1989). Here the actor/producer/director/writer played the guardian angel, Jonathan Smith.

Although Michael was one of the most popular TV personalities of the ’70s and ’80s, he was not universally admired by his Hollywood contemporaries. (Many Four of Hearts ♥ people are destined to become important leaders in their chosen field and part of the path to that high success causes them to face issues around money and power. Finding their own power while maintaining their foundation of love and support is an important step in this process.) We can see some of these issues clearly played out as his dictatorial on-set behavior and his tendency to shed his wives whenever they matured past childbearing age did not win him any awards with his peers. Still many felt that Landon was the salt of the earth.

In early 1991 with nine children in his life, Landon began work on his fourth TV series called “Us”. Here at age 54, he began experiencing stomach pains. In April of that same year, Michael was informed that he had inoperable pancreatic cancer. As some of you may, the courage and dignity with which he lived his final months on the stage called Earth resulted in a public outpouring of love, affection and support. Michael Landon “died” in his Malibu home on July 1, 1991, with his third wife Cindy at his side. Now to clearly explain what happened at the end of his life through the cards, I am going to give you the dates, the cards for the period of that year, and their exact meaning out of the Book of Destiny 3.7 software that I use so you can see what they say for yourself.

The Six of Spades in Saturn in his Birth Card Life Spread (October 31, 1988 – October 31, 2001)

“Any physical problems you face now are likely to be the result of an accumulation of bad health habits from the past. As this is a ‘triple karmic’ influence, most any area of your life could be the one where you are receiving payment for past thoughts, words, or actions that were hurtful to others or to your own body. Now is the time to take full responsibility for your health, work and lifestyle and to be willing to make proper amends to correct any problems.

“This is the strongest card of fate in the whole deck. Because the Saturn Period is also a karmic or ‘fated’ period, it triples the influence. Seeing this card coming, it is wise to take stock of your actions in the past and assume as much responsibility as you can for your deeds. It is especially important to make sure that your health and work habits are positive, honest and healthful as you approach this period. Everything in your life that is out of balance will probably be brought into balance in a somewhat relentless and often extreme manner.”

The Ten of Spades ♠ in the Venus Period (10/22/1990 – 2/12/1991) (This is the time frame when he was working hard on the new “Us” television series.)

“This is a card of success and happiness in love, home, money, work, health, and family. It is an influence that overcomes negativity and problems. This success may be connected to females in some way or to the arts and music. This is also a good influence for a working marriage or for working with large groups of people. Business expansion is favored and you should have the resources to do this comfortably.”

Several months later – The Seven of Spades ♠ in the Jupiter Period (4/6/1991 – 5/27/1991)

“This period can bring on an illness related to worry about money or work, perhaps from overworking. You just might be overdoing things now and fear may be the reason for it. This can also indicate money spent or time lost through illness, but it has positive manifestations as well. “This card is a powerful spiritual influence giving you more than the usual energy to conquer your mundane problems through the application of faith, gratitude, wisdom, self-honesty and discipline. Any attempts to help others, or to adopt a more sincere basis for your work could result in greater prosperity for you now. This powerful card of ‘faith’ could also bring the realization of many of life’s deeper mysteries. “Because this card falls in Jupiter, it is much easier to manifest its higher spiritual benefits. However, those who are very attached to circumstances turning out a certain way, or who are extremely materialistic by nature could still have some very difficult challenges when this card is present.”

Finally, he had The Ace of Spades ♠ in the Saturn Period (5/28/1991 – 7/19/1991)

“This period could hold some kind of concealed trouble, such as a disease or illness, either yours or someone else, and perhaps a secret kept from you. Something kept hidden could be hindering you. This is a good influence for healers and physicians. This card can bring a recovery from illness or some kind of reversal in your health picture. A desire to uncover the underlying causes of illness could lead to your recovery or that of someone else.

As much as the Ace of Spades means a beginning, it can also mean an ending. It is the card of transformation and transformation means death of the old and the beginning of the new. If there are parts of yourself or your lifestyle that are due for a change, this is probably the time when it will happen. Your other Saturn Card could tell you more about this change or tell you what area of your life it will affect. Though most of us fear changes, they always lead us to something new and better.”

Michael had The Five of Spades ♠ Environment Card for that year of his life. This card is “always perceived as a blessing of some sort.”

“Most all changes and opportunities to travel will bring blessings of one sort or another this year. This includes changes in business, lifestyle, living situation, work or residence. Jobs is currently on his third medical leave of absence. Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook is running Apple’s day-to-day operations while he is on leave. Analysts noted that Jobs’ health problems are widely known by investors.

Despite his leave from Apple, Jobs had been seen in recent weeks on Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California. The company has said he will continue to be involved in major strategic decisions. This should not be a surprise as Jobs is known for his idiosyncratic style. In 1996 Jobs rescued the computer maker from near death after a 12-year absence from the company.

Let’s take a closer look at the life of Steve Jobs and his health challenges through the cards based on his birth date of February 24, 1955. He is a Ace of Diamonds, The Desire for Money Card, and a Five of Diamonds, The Financial Freedom Card.

Jobs had surgery in 2004 for a tumor on his pancreas. He had a liver transplant in 2009. These occurred in his 7-Year Spread which ‘coincidentally’ started in 2004 and ends on his birthday this year. Remember, everything in this system is from birthday to birthday.

His current Seven-Year Spread ends this week on his birthday.  His Displacement Card for this time frame is a Nine of Spades. Here is what that card means in that position:

“This period marks the end of a major cycle for you, one in which you can expect to complete things you have been doing for some time and prepare to move on to a new and better life. Whether or not you enjoy this process will depend upon how you regard endings in your life. These endings can be related to your work, your health, or some other very important aspect of your lifestyle. Something important in your life is ending. Get ready for a new life by letting go.”

It seems obvious that Jobs will be completing or ending a major part of his life. He has already given up parts of his lifestyle with pancreatic cancer and even parts of his body with a liver transplant. This card could indicate his retirement from Apple or potentially something more permanent.  We will all know soon enough as this portion of his life comes to a close and he shows us what it is like to have a Queen of Spades Pluto Card in a Life Spread. Self-mastery is definitely the name of his game right now!

UPDATE 10/6/2011: Steve Jobs, Apple founder, dies

Excerpt from an article by Brandon Griggs, CNN, Wed October 5, 2011

“Jobs’ death, while dreaded by Apple’s legions of fans, was not unexpected. He had battled cancer for years, took a medical leave from Apple in January and stepped down as chief executive in August because he could “no longer meet (his) duties and expectations.”

“Born February 24, 1955, and then adopted, Jobs grew up in Cupertino, California — which would become home to Apple’s headquarters — and showed an early interest in electronics. As a teenager, he phoned William Hewlett, president of Hewlett-Packard, to request parts for a school project. He got them, along with an offer of a summer job at HP.”

“Jobs dropped out of Oregon’s Reed College after one semester, although he returned to audit a class in calligraphy, which he says influenced Apple’s graceful, minimalist aesthetic. He quit one of his first jobs, designing video games for Atari, to backpack across India and take psychedelic drugs. Those experiences, Jobs said later, shaped his creative vision.”

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future,” he told Stanford University graduates. “You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

For Steve Job’s 56th year, his Cosmic Lesson was the Ace of Spades. In the science of the cards, this is similar to an Ace of Spades in Saturn. According to “Cards of Your Destiny” book, this ”means a beginning and it can also mean an ending. This is the card of transformation and transformation means death of the old and the beginning of the new. If there are parts of yourself or your lifestyle that are due for a change, this is probably the time when it will happen. Though most of us fear changes, they always lead us to something new and better.” It seems that is exactly what has transpired for Steve Jobs. On a soul level, it appears that he has fulfilled his divine cosmic plan for this lifetime.

Ironically, Steve Jobs spoke about death and transformation after finding out he had cancer of the pancreas in a commencement address delivered on June 12, 2005 at Stanford University. He said “No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.”

For many people the information about the cards may hard to believe but when we look at his daily card for October 5th, we can see that it was exactly what was destined to happen. He had an Ace of Spades in Neptune. According to Robert Lee Camp in his book, The Cards of Your Destiny, the Ace of Spades in Neptune “may bring a secret journey, a secret uncovered on a journey, or secret information about a distant interest. You have strong intuition at this time and perhaps a desire to uncover things about the past or past lives. This card represents a desire to uncover secrets about your inner self and the mysteries of the universe and can be a motivating factor in getting you involved in meaningful study or practice.”

It goes on to say, “This card can also represent the beginning of a job that takes you in new directions. On the spiritual level, this is one of the most powerful influences that exists. A desire to delve into the deepest parts of yourself are likely to be well rewarded.”

I think that says it all. Steve Jobs has been promoted and has a new “job” that is taking him in new directions, indeed. In every opportunity, Steve Jobs said he stepped up in faith like his Seven of Spades Life Spread Cosmic Moon Card called for and took the next step!

Steve Jobs in his commencement speech said “When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

BRAVO, STEVE! BRAVO!

Elin Maria Pernilla Nordegren (born January 1, 1980) is a former Swedish model and the ex-wife of professional golfer Tiger Woods. When she was 20 years old, Nordegren took a job in a Stockholm clothing store where she met Mia Parnevik, wife of Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik, who hired Nordegren as the nanny to their children, a job that required her to move to the U.S. Jesper introduced her to Tiger during the 2001 Open Championship. Previously, Tiger had asked for a year to be introduced to Nordegren, who was seeing someone else at the time. In November 2003, Woods and Nordegren attended the Presidents Cup tournament in South Africa and became officially engaged when Woods proposed at the luxury Shamwari Game Reserve. They were married in October 2004, by the 19th hole of the Sandy Lane resort in Barbados. The 150 guests included Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and Bill Gates. Tiger Woods rented the entire complex for a week, including three golf courses and 110 rooms, costing almost $2 million.

Certainly sounds like a wedding fit for a king. It shouldn’t be a surprise to learn that Elin Nordegren is a King of Spades!

January 1 Birthdays – The King of Spades

The King of Spades governs the month of December and is known as the Master Card. This is the most powerful card in the deck on the material level. It would be easy to assume that most King of Spades would become politicians, leaders in government and large corporations or at least leaders in their communities. However, there is a side to them that yearns for freedom and causes them to avoid responsibility. Because there is only one birthday for this Birth Card–January 1st, there is only one Planetary Ruling Card–the Five of Clubs. This card is often called the “cheater” card because they are often restless and changing their minds. For those who do not cheat, then they have to attract a cheater to live out that experience. This was certainly the case for Elin Nordegren, ex-wife of Tiger Woods. As you can see, Kings can be men and women in this system.

Even though they all don’t reach a high place, all of the King of Spades people have wisdom and rarely sink down to lowly acts. Love is the area where these Kings have the most challenges. Their karmic pattern indicates there will be betrayals at certain times in their life. Some of their greatest life lessons involve learning to let others be who they are and releasing emotional attachments to those closest to them. Developing a true and deeper understanding of unconditional love is part of their life’s purpose.

Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins, CBE (born 31 December 1937), is a Welsh actor of film, stage and television. Considered to be one of the greatest living actors, he is perhaps best known for his portrayal of cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, its sequel, Hannibal, and its prequel, Red Dragon. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is a Fellow of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Hopkins is renowned for his preparation for roles. He has confessed that once he has committed to a project, he will go over his lines as many times as is needed (sometimes upwards of 200) until the lines sound natural to him, so that he can “do it without thinking.” Hopkins stated that after he is finished with a scene, he simply discards the lines, not remembering them later on. This is unlike others who usually remember their lines even years later.

Additionally, Hopkins is a gifted mimic, adept at turning his native Welsh accent into whatever is required by a character.

Privately Hopkins has attended 12-Step meetings for alcohol addiction and stopped drinking in 1975. He is a vegetarian and also a prominent member of environmental protection group Greenpeace. Hopkins is also a talented pianist. In 1986, he released a single called “Distant Star”. It peaked at #75 in the UK charts. He has written music for the concert hall, in collaboration with Stephen Barton as orchestrator. These compositions include Schizoid Salsa and The Masque of Time, having had its world premiere with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in October 2008.

How appropriate for a Joker who can wear any mask they want!

December 31 Birthdays – The Joker Card

Little is really known about the Joker. He has no Life Path Cards or Yearly Spreads from which we can make any sort of predictions. In truth, the Joker can be any card in the deck that he or she chooses to be. The Joker is no card and yet it is all the cards at the same time. While the Joker person can assume the personality of any card in the deck at will, they have no personality that is truly their own. Thus, they fall into a unique category in this system that separates them from the other cards. Whether this special place is a blessing or a curse is highly dependent upon the individual who possesses this most unusual Birth Card.

The Joker was the Court Jester in days of old that ascended the throne on ‘Fool’s Day’ each year and impersonated the King, Queen and all members of the kingdom. His day, December 31st, is the time of celebration of the New Year, and in ancient times was the day to make merry and folly of our serious natures. He could impersonate anyone with ease. This is still part of the Joker’s personality today. They have the ability to take on any role at will. Since we don’t know which card they are playing out, it is difficult to make any definite statements about them.

A Joker can be considered to be the ‘Jack of all Jacks.’ This tends to make them very creative, youthful acting and extremely independent. The Joker is part of the royal family and so we find that they are proud and not too fond of being told what to do, as is the case with most Jacks, Queens and Kings. Because of the strong creative urges in the Joker, we find many are attracted to the stage or theater. This same creative energy can show up as a dishonest streak in some of them as well. Many are successful musicians or artists. They have the potential to be deeply spiritual, being the card that is associated with God in the Tarot decks (The Fool Card, Number Zero).

Beyond this, there is little known about them. As Florence Campbell, author of Sacred Symbols of the Ancients, puts it, “They are a mystery unto themselves.”
