♥ Mary Tyler Moore is The Two of Hearts! ♥
The Two of Hearts is called “The Love Affair Card” and one that mixes business with love. To learn more about the personality and characteristics of the second of the deck, we are going to look at actress Mary Tyler Moore who turned 73 on December 29th. (This is the only birthday for this card.) As an iconic modern woman, Mary has made an enormous contribution to television history as both an actress and producer. Audiences first fell in love with her as a believable symbol of the smart, young, pants-wearing mom in the highly regarded comedy series, The Dick Van Dyke Show, before she came to signify a new breed of independent, liberated professional woman in the popular Emmy-winning sitcom, Mary Tyler Moore Show. Here she starred as the unforgettable Mary Richards, who moves to Minneapolis/St. Paul on the heels of a failed relationship. The show was a fixture of CBS’s unbeatable Saturday night line-up for years, and one of the earliest TV portrayals of a woman who was happy and successful on her own rather than simply being a man’s wife.

As a ‘double-two’ card (2♦ Planetary Ruling Card–PRC), the 2♥ may be one of the most feminine cards in the entire deck. But being so feminine isn’t all a blessing. Femininity is receptive but also fearful, and especially afraid of being alone. That overriding fear often causes them to make very bad choices in their personal relationships. Mary Tyler Moore, probably the most famous 2♥ celebrity alive today, once gave a speech where she talked about how her own fear did just that. It is interesting because she was the sweetheart that an entire country had a love affair with. She could have had practically any man she wanted.

Their K♥ in Mercury (the first thirteen years of life) generally points to a strong father figure in childhood, often a dominating one. As the 2♥ reaches maturity, they are often attracted to strong dominating and successful men (K♦ in Venus). Because of their 2♦ PRC, the 2♥ person is very intelligent and good in business. They love being involved with friends and loved ones in a business capacity, even to the point of joining forces with their lovers on a business level. Since all 2♥ are Capricorns, you can bet that business and career are important to them. Being a two also gives them a fair command over logic and most are good with computers and all methods of communications. They are detail oriented and possess enough ambition to make a success of many kinds of business or enterprises.

We can clearly see how this has played out in her life. In 1955, aged 18, Mary married and within six weeks was pregnant with her only child, Richie. They divorced in 1961. Moore later married Grant Tinker, an NBC executive in 1962, and in 1970 they formed the television production company MTM Enterprises, which created and produced the company’s first television series, The Mary Tyler Moore Show. MTM Enterprises would later produce popular American sitcoms and drama television series such as Rhoda and Phyllis (both spin-offs from The Mary Tyler Moore Show), The Bob Newhart Show, WKRP in Cincinnati, Hill Street Blues, and Newhart. It was later sold and Moore and Tinker divorced in 1981.

On a personal level, I believe Mary tried to overcome her fear of being alone when her son died of a self-inflicted gunshot in 1980. In her chart, she had a 9♥ in Uranus–an “unexpected” death or loss. (How can it be called unexpected when it was in her cards?) Yet three years later she married a third time to a Dr. Robert Levine. That year she had a 4♥ Result Card–the marriage and stability in family card. They met when her mother was treated by him on a weekend house call. Again she has partnered with someone she is in business with. The business at hand now was taking care of her mother.

America’s sweetheart has faced many personal hardships over the course of her life here on planet Earth including the premature deaths of her siblings from cancer and a drug overdose. Mary has long been diagnosed an insulin-dependent diabetic, and battled with alcoholism. In spite of all her challenges of being a 2♥ character out on the world’s stage, Mary is an active spokesperson for diabetes health and awareness. She is a vegetarian and a passionate proponent of animal rights.
Bravo, Mary Tyler Moore! You have entertained us for a lifetime. You have helped us evolve and shown us how to laugh and to persevere against all odds. Bravo! What a performance you have given us as The Two of Hearts on this glorious stage called “Life!”
